[0:00] This is the morning service at Holy Trinity on the 19th of December 2004. [0:11] The preacher is Paul Dudley. His sermon is entitled His Name is Jesus and is based on Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 to 25. [0:26] A long time ago there was a lady called Mary. She loved God and God loved her. [0:41] Now Mary had a special friend named Joseph. Mary and Joseph were going to be married to each other but they weren't married yet. [0:53] Then something very special and unusual happened. Before Mary and Joseph were married God put a baby in Mary's tummy. [1:06] Joseph was also surprised. Joseph was also very confused. He did not know that God had put the baby in Mary's tummy. [1:17] And it was very embarrassing to have a baby in a lady's tummy before they were married. So Joseph decided not to marry Mary. After all that thinking Joseph was very tired. [1:33] So Joseph fell asleep. While he was asleep God sent a special messenger to Joseph. [1:44] And the special messenger said. Joseph don't be afraid to marry Mary. God's spirit has put this baby in Mary's tummy. She's going to have a baby boy. You will call him Jesus which means. [1:58] God saved. Well I think we'll try that again special messenger. You will call him Jesus which means. God saves. Joseph woke up. [2:10] He scratched his head. He thought about what God's messenger had said. Hmm. Call him Jesus which means. God saves. [2:22] Joseph did exactly what God had said. He married Mary. And Mary had God's baby. And they called him Jesus. [2:35] There's the baby. They called him Jesus which means. God saves. Okay. Well done. Thank you actors. Thank you helpers. [2:47] Audience. Boys and girls at Christmas time. Which is coming up very soon. It's coming soon. It's coming very very soon. [3:01] And there's lots of exciting things about Christmas. But we need to remember most of all at Christmas time. That Christmas is Jesus birthday. And the name Jesus means. [3:12] God sent. Very good. God sent Jesus. So that he could be our friend. And so that he could save us. Who can tell me. [3:23] This is not a story that happens at Christmas time. But at Easter time. How Jesus saves us from all the wrong things that we've done. He died on the cross. [3:34] Excellent Josh. He died on the cross. So Jesus came at Christmas time. Was born at Christmas time. And he died on the cross at Easter time. To save us from the wrong things that we've done. [3:46] So hang on a second. So at Christmas time. What we need to remember. Is that Christmas. Is not just about Santa and presents. And food. [3:57] Although those are fun things. But Christmas is about Jesus. Jesus birthday. And we remember that the name Jesus means. God saves. Excellent. [4:07] Now. Now. The year ones and twos. In their Sunday school class. Have been making something to help us. Remember Christmas time. So can I get the people in the year one and two Sunday school class. [4:19] To bring it out the front. To show everybody. I'm already good. Some of you have already seen it. But the adults haven't seen it. And there's a picture on the overhead. [4:31] So that if you can't see it from the back. You'll be able to see what the children have made. Now. Boys and girls. Can you see what they've made here at the front? [4:41] Because I'm going to ask them a few things. To help us remember the Christmas story. Can you tell me. Who are the people. What's this thing that you're holding. [4:51] Around the outside. It's just a box that's been covered. Okay. It is a box that's been covered. But what's it. What's it to remind us of in the Christmas story. What is it. It's the stable. [5:03] And what's going on inside the stable at Christmas time. Mary's having. Mary's just had a baby. Okay. So where's Mary in here. There's Mary at the front. [5:13] And where's Joseph. Goodness. They look just like the people who acted in our play. You must have. You must have known. Very good. Mary and Joseph. And what's. What's this. The manger. [5:24] That's the manger. And who's in the manger. Jesus. Jesus. Because that's where they put him after he was born. Now there's some people with crowns next to them. Now. What are their people with crowns. [5:34] And what are those. There's gifts. And who are those people. Gold. Frankincense. And myrrh. Because those are the. Yeah. The kings. Or the wise men. There's some animals. [5:46] What animals have we got in here. And the people at the back. Are they. Friends. Oh they're. They're shepherds. [5:57] And on the top. And you might not be able to see. The adults might not be seeing. Because I've cut it off in the photo. But what have we got at the top there. The angels. The angels. And what did the angels do at Christmas time. They sang. [6:10] Well done. Yeah. They sang. And they told the shepherds to go to the manger. Hang on Josh. Okay. Well thank you very much for making. And do you want to read us what you've written at the top there. [6:20] Everyone at Holy Trinity Church. We hope you have a happy Christmas. And a happy new year. [6:31] From year one and two. Okay. It says. Well done. To everyone at Holy Trinity Church. We hope you have a happy Christmas. And a happy new year. From year one and two. Because they've made that for us. Do you want to just put it up there. [6:43] So that people can have a look at it. At the end if they like. And you can go and sit down. Well boys and girls. Well done listening. And one more time. Just so that we have it clearly in our heads. [6:54] Christmas is Jesus' birthday. And Jesus came to do something. And we know what he came to do by his name. Because the name Jesus means. [7:05] God saves. That's right. Jesus came at Christmas time to save us. Now we're going to sing another song. It's very easy at Christmas time to think about Santa and presents. And forget what Christmas is all about. [7:17] So this next song that we're going to sing. It shows us that Christmas isn't just about Santa. But it's all about Jesus. So we'll try and sing this together. And Ainsley's going to come and help lead us. [7:28] So we'll try and sing this together. And Ainsley's going to come and help lead us. And a song is that we'll try and sing this together. Let's dance. Yeah. So we'll try and sing. And let's hope that Christmas is all. Let's do that again. And let's see. So we'll try and sing this together. And let's turn theになliiggly. [7:38] So now we'll help you. Now we'll try and put it together. Let's go and swallow goodnight transfer. And let's listen to our promise. So home, guys, And letting me feel as if we could see some work here and let's take like a damn fight. So we'll try and pass a little bit two different fast. And let's keep doing it from now. And when you see that the chance. Then we'll try and put things away again. [7:49] So well, when you're from time to go breastfeed.
