[0:00] Well, children, at this point, I need you to go back to your parents. So if you can all find your way back to your parents, because you need to be with your parents because they need to help you look some things up in the Bible.

[0:16] So this is a sort of Bible search that you're going to go on this morning. So get with your parents, find a Bible, and your parents might need to help you to find John chapter 1 in the Bible.

[0:33] So John chapter 1, that's on page 862. Now, so this is sort of like a treasure hunt.

[0:44] Okay, so you've got to find some answers to some things for me. Alright, I've got three questions I'm going to ask today, and I'll tell you what my first question is, and I'll even give you a little bit of a clue as to where you might find an answer.

[1:00] So make sure you've got a Bible there. And my three questions are this. First question is, who is Jesus? Okay, and I'll tell you the verses to look at in a moment.

[1:12] But before I do that, I need to tell you that in this passage, Jesus has a different name from what we normally call him. We could call Jesus Super Saviour. We could call him Jesus the Saviour.

[1:26] We could call him the Christ. But here in our passage, he's called the Word as well as Jesus. Okay, so he's called the Word. That's another name for Jesus.

[1:38] So I want you to have a look and see if you can find out who is Jesus. Jesus, and you might like to look with mum and dad at verses 1 to 3, and then maybe even verse 14.

[1:53] So verses 1 to 3 and verse 14. And if there's someone really keen, we might be able to get you to give some answers out loud too. But have a look. And parents, it's not just for the kids I need to tell you.

[2:09] Verses 1 to 3 and verse 14. Who is Jesus? I'll give you just a minute to talk about it with mum and dad or amongst yourselves. Keep having a look.

[2:45] Verses 1 to 3 and 14. Who is Jesus? Alright, has anyone got an answer for me?

[3:02] Yes? God, that's very good. You've got the first answer straight off. That's very good work. So who is Jesus? There's actually another answer there somewhere.

[3:15] We'll move around a bit. Brendan? Yeah, and the word was God.

[3:26] That's right. Exactly. And we'll keep moving around. Anyone else got another answer? What about verse 14 there? That's a tricky one. And you might need mum and dad to yell it out a bit loud for you. Oh, we've got one over here somewhere?

[3:39] Yes. The father's only son. That is very good. That's not one that I've chosen out of this, but that is very good. The father's only son.

[3:53] Okay, there's one other. See, have a look at verse 14. I'll read it to you. It says, And the word became flesh and lived among us.

[4:04] What do you think it means when he became flesh? He became a human being. So can you see there's two things about Jesus there?

[4:15] One is that he's God, and two is that he's also a human being. Jesus is both those things together. That's really hard to understand, isn't it?

[4:25] How can you be God, but a human being as well? Well, we don't know how exactly that can happen, but we know both of those things are true. So when we see Jesus, we're actually seeing God as well.

[4:41] Jesus is God with a body in one sense. Okay? Now, let's have a look at the next question. The next question is, Why should I even be worried about Jesus or interested in Jesus?

[4:55] Why should I be interested in Jesus? And I'll tell you where to find an answer to this. Verse 4. So see if you can have a look at that. Verse 4. Why should I be interested in Jesus?

[5:15] Anyone got any ideas about this? Someone that hasn't answered a question already, Why should I be interested in Jesus? A loud voice.

[5:29] Because he gives life. That's exactly right. So see what verse 4 is saying? It says, In him... Sorry, let me just read it.

[5:40] What has come... Sorry. What has come into being, in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. In other words, Jesus is the one who gives light to people, and life to people.

[5:55] In other words, he is what God wants to tell us about what it means to live in his world. Okay? So God is the... Jesus is the way of leading us to true life, to what it means to be truly human.

[6:11] And the last question. What do you think I learn about God, by learning about Jesus? And you might look at verse 14 to 18 here. What do I learn about God, by looking at Jesus?

[6:27] This is 14 to 18. There's some hard things to understand there, but have we got an answer here?

[6:49] Or you might have mum or dad yell it out. Yes, that's exactly right. Because we see Jesus, we see God is full of grace and truth.

[7:04] That's a great thing to learn, isn't it? So we've learnt about four important things today. Did you see them all? Jesus is God. Jesus is a human being.

[7:15] Jesus is the way to life. And the last one, Jesus shows us that God is full of grace and truth. Now friends, just to wrap this up, and to sort of sum up all the things that we've learnt.

[7:33] What this verse is saying is, if you want to know God, you know through Jesus. Now friends, there are lots of people in our world that say there's other ways to know God.

[7:45] But what John says is, no, no, no, there's only one way to know God truly. And that is through Jesus. And if you don't know God through Jesus, you don't know God.

[7:57] That's a very important thing to learn. That means you're going to have to spend life learning about Jesus. Because learning about Jesus is learning about God. And learning about God is what life is about.

[8:10] That's what's said in verse 4. They're very important things to learn, aren't they? Let's pray and ask God to help us have a life of learning those things. Let's pray and ask God.
